The Process

 
  1.  Days One and Two: Once you have been assigned a group of three students, you will decide which group member will take ownership of what role.  Each member will independently research an aspect of scatter plots and then create a slide on a Google Sheets shared document.  The roles are as follows:
  • mathematicianMathematician – This person will research the various scatter plots relationships, how scatterplots are made and understand how to create scales to plot large numbers.

 

  • TechnologyMasterTechnology Master – This person will research how to graph a scatter plot and the line of best fit on a graphing calculator and on Google Sheets.

 

  • Close-up mid section of man touching crystal ballFuturist – This person will research trend lines vs. lines of best fit, calculate the equation for the line of best fit and predict future trends.

 

 

2.  Day Three:  Now that your independent investigation is complete, share the information that you learned with your group.  Share your slide and explain your findings.  At the end of the period, you will select out of a hat one out of five professions from which you will make a scatterplot based upon data you collect.

 

3.  Days Four – Six:  Analyze data from a selected profession.

Olympic Athlete

Movie Production Company

Environmentalist

4.  Day Seven: You will present your analysis of your chosen profession from slides 4 and 5 on your Google Slides team page.
